Project overview
The Lucent building behind the iconic Piccadilly Lights at Piccadilly Circus transformed a long-underused space into a landmark building at the heart of the West End.
The apparently unusable area behind the lights has been turned into flexible workspace, commercial offices, shops and apartments, and a top floor destination restaurant complete with a sky garden terrace.
We achieved all this while keeping the Piccadilly Lights and pre-existing Boots retail store fully operational. This high-profile development delivers a new seven-story mixed-use building with two basement levels, comprising approximately 120,000 sq. ft of commercial office space completed to a CAT A finish, 20,000 sq. ft of retail space and seven new residential units.
SEC work package
We are proud to have delivered an extensive carpentry and joinery package including the installation of mansard roofing and MF fire rated suspended ceilings.
We delivered the washroom and changing room fit out; terrazzo wall and floor tiling, fixtures and fittings, flush panel DorSuite doors to bathrooms, superloos and flight riser doors, sliding doors to provide optional segregation to changing room areas and Majestic shower screens. We also supplied and installed timber staircases and timber structural flooring to residential areas.
Furthermore, our extensive door package also included fire rated Selo doors throughout with 3v ironmongery installation, fire certified Robust metal doorsets to back of house and full key suiting to all doors internal and external.
We are proud to have supplied and installed the heritage box sash and casement timber windows by Mumford & Wood Ltd. The windows were installed into commercial and residential buildings on either side of the large screens surrounding Piccadilly Circus.
Due to the iconic landmark location, there was considerable involvement with both English Heritage and the local planning conservation officers throughout the process. As a result, an extensive and detailed design development process was undertaken with ourselves and Mumford & Wood to ensure we were preserving the heritage aesthetic of the building façade whilst meeting the specification for modern performance requirements. Consequently, extensive and detailed site surveys of the existing windows and structural facades were taken to ensure that each window was individual to its own location.
Extensive carpentry and joinery works including mansard roofing, full fire rated doorset package, extensive washroom and changing room fit out, heritage windows, timber staircases and flooring.
