Project overview
The world-famous grade II listed Old Admiralty Building will be transformed into the new home for The Department for Education (DfE), providing office space for 1,120 people.
Most recently occupied by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the Old Admiralty Building has housed some of the most famous figures in history, including former Prime Minister Winston Churchill when he was First Lord of the Admiralty, and James Bond author - and former naval intelligence officer - Ian Fleming, who’s renowned ‘Room 39’ was located inside the walls during World War II.
SEC work package
SEC recognised the importance of fully and adequately resourcing the on-site activities with regards to Management/Supervision and Commercial support for NEC form of contracts.
A close and collaborative form of working between ourselves and Willmott Dixon Interiors was essential particularly with respect to the ongoing commercial matters. SEC recognised that whilst this approach can appear a little alien to the normal JCT type approach if done correctly benefits all parties. A buy-in throughout the whole supply chain was essential and SEC went to great lengths to explain this method/form of contract to our preferred suppliers so that they knew from the onset what will be expected from them/us, this is extremely important as a change in mind-set is required when dealing with NEC contracts.
