SEC's 'Flex Appeal'

“Working part-time doesn’t mean you’re part-talented, part-ambitious, part-driven!” Mother Pukka LTD

Rebecca Bigwood, our Customer Care Co-Ordinator has kindly shared her views on SEC’s ‘Flex Appeal’ and how flexible working enables her to be a great mummy to her little ones and continue to build her career, without judgement or difficulty. We asked Rebecca, what this means for her and she said:

Flexible working enables me to afford to work. I don’t have to cover the costs of expensive childcare. Flexible attitudes and understanding from my colleagues make such a difference with juggling and balancing family/work life. It means I can be the happy mummy I want to be for my children. It means I can continue a career as well as raising a family; women can and should have the option to do both. I can set an example to my children that working is exciting and enjoyable. We are positively moving forward in a system previously wired for women who wish to raise a family alongside having a career to fail. SEC have values, understanding and compassion and treating it’s staff like human beings.

Rebecca then explained how SEC has helped her to bring balance to her home and work life… “SEC have given me all the necessary tools to allow me to work at home or the office. It is my own choice to decide what is best for my job and family from day to day without anyone questioning where I am or what I am doing. This allows me to be a part of events such as parents evenings and the Christmas nativities. I know I am extremely lucky to be able to work so flexibly as I know so many businesses have a long way to go but this should be the norm in the workplace for both men and women. Change needs to happen for the next generation.”

Rebecca’s passion and drive has inspired us to promote equality in the workplace, especially for women in the construction industry.
