Company Overview

We are a successful and reputable carpentry & joinery specialist with over 38 years experience, committed to excellent service in the construction industry.

Established in 1985, SEC began as a small carpentry company based in Kent. Over the years the business has grown by our reputation to provide a professional service, deliver a quality product and build strong client relationships. The company's growth is easily measured by the number of Tier 1 clients that we regularly work for today.

We undertake works on major building projects across all sectors, with our portfolio including government contracts, luxury residential developments, hotels and leisure facilities, commercial office fit outs and retail spaces, hospitals, schools and universities. We also specialise in heritage and conservation joinery works with project experience on a plethora of listed buildings and on some of the UK’s most historic buildings.

Our services are wide ranging from the initial design and manufacture process to programme delivery, followed by our extensive aftercare packages.

We are proud of our people. We have expanded our workforce and have experienced and qualified people at every level. Our apprenticeship schemes, health and safety training , graduate programmes and senior management development all contribute to producing a first-class team. We are committed to quality of service delivered right through from the tender process to our aftercare team. Our continued success is generated by the expertise that our teams across the business deliver to each project.

The construction industry is as much about the quality of our people as the quality of our product. That's why we pride ourselves on both our outstanding workforce and the work they produce. Our continued investment in our people's personal and professional development is the most important aspect of our business strategy as we continually strive to deliver excellence in our customer service and engagement across all our services.

Employment & training

We encourage our staff to develop their skills, knowledge and qualifications to enable development within the business. We actively promote CSCS/CPCS and trade specific NVQs, trainee opportunities and continuous professional development (CPD). We also regularly host work experience initiatives and have over 35 years experience in running apprenticeship schemes:

Apprenticeships

  • To date, we have successfully completed over 50 apprenticeships, across our projects

  • Apprenticeships begin with the initial three year training completing NVQ1, NVQ2 and NVQ3

  • The apprentice then receives Gold CSCS as a certified carpenter

  • Following this the apprentice may then continue to work for SEC for a further two years under supervision as an 'Improver'

  • We promote further opportunities to develop a managerial career with company funding to achieve completion of NVQ4, NVQ5 and NVQ6

  • 10 members of our current senior workforce have progressed through the apprenticeship programme

I started my apprenticeship in September 1998, specialising in first fix carpentry and have remained with the company since. As products and tools have changed over the years it is an ongoing learning process. I also enjoy passing on the knowledge I have been taught to new apprentices and improvers.
